Casting Details on Men in Black Spinoff Released

New details on the upcoming Men in Black spinoff film have been leaked by entertainment industry magazine The Hollywood Reporter. THR has confirmed that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom actor Rafe Spall has joined the cast, along with Laurent Nicolas Bourgeois and Larry Nicolas Bourgeois, French dancers who are known as Les Twins. There are currently no details on who Spall and Les Twins are playing, but speculation centers on Spall playing a shady character in the film. Les Twins appearance is rumored to be a cameo role. Past films in the Men in Black series have featured celebrities as secret aliens. Michael Jackson played this role in an appearance in Men in Black 2 while Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber appeared in Men in Black 3.

Casting details on the new film have been slowly coming out over the past several months. In March, Thor: Ragnarok duo Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson joined the cast as main protagonists Agents H and Em. Last month, Silicon Valley star Kumail Nanjiani joined the film, along with Academy Award nominated actor Liam Neeson. Nanjiani is playing Pawny, a wisecracking alien from a civilization that exists on a Chess board. Neeson is rumored to be playing the head of the United Kingdom branch of the Men in Black organization and the British counterpart to Rip Torn’s Zed character from the original movies.

Details on the plot of the new film are being kept secret for the time being, but rumors suggest that Sony wants the franchise to follow the example set by The Fast and the Furious film series and embrace a global setting. The original three Men in Black films were all set in the United States, but a major story arc throughout the series is how the Men in Black have gained advanced technology in exchange for allowing aliens to live on Earth. With these types of technologies, Men in Black agents could be anywhere in the world in a matter of seconds. Sony hopes that this global setting will give the series a spy movie feel and appeal to a wider audience than the original films. Directed by Fast 8’s F. Gary Gray, the currently untitled Men in Black spinoff film is set for release on June 14, 2019.
