Since President Donald Trump decided to recognize Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel, protests enshrined and are likely to escalate. On Sunday, the Lebanese security forces were forced to use tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd that had camped outside the United States Embassy. The protesters had come out in large numbers and were chanting against the orders of President Trump which include moving the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Some of the protesters threw stones and glass bottles into the heavily secured Embassy while others lit a fire. The more courageous protesters made attempts to rip off the fence’s barbed wire. Their efforts did not materialize since the security officers fired tear gas which left some chocked by smoke, fainting or vomiting. Several people were injured during this protest.
The decision by President Donald Trump blew off the idea of a Palestinian State with Jerusalem as its capital and has thus faced condemnation from all quarters of the word especially from the Arab world. In relation to this decision, an emergency meeting was held by the Arab League in Cairo on Sunday. They deemed Mr. Trump’s decision as a dangerous violation of international law. Germany and France are some of the countries that criticized the Trump’s move while North Korea considers it a reckless and wicked act and at the same time denounced President Trump. Indonesia, a country that is regarded as a highly populous Muslim country saw about 10,000 individual rallying outside the American Embassy in Jakarta. The demonstration was the largest in the nation over Trump’s decision. Joko Widodo, the president of Indonesia, said that the move taken by the United States of America’s president violates the United Nations resolutions. Indonesia has for a long time supported Palestine even though it has not had any diplomatic ties with Israel.
The prime minister of Lebanon Saad Hariri and his president Michael Aoun condemned the decision. Mr. Hariri, in particular, said that the move by the President of the United States foreshadows trouble for the region. He took it to Twitter on Wednesday saying that his country is in full solidarity with the Palestinian people, and their right to establish a state and have Jerusalem as its capital. The protesters that the security officer had to deal with came from Beirut and were made up of Lebanese and Palestinians. They chanted as they waved flags from Palestine and Lebanon.
