More Americans Are Couch Potatoes

A recent study that was taken by the Journal of American Medical Association has shown that there Americans are less physically active than they were in the past. The study involved 6,000 Americans. They were asked about how much time they spend sitting. The researchers found that 40 percent of Americans are couch potatoes. In fact, many of them do not get any physical activity.

According to the Center for Disease Control, 80 percent of Americans did not get enough exercise last year. Many people got less than 10 minutes of physical activity per day. The CDC recently made changes to its exercise guidelines. They stated that people who do not exercise are putting themselves at risk for an early death. They described a sedentary lifestyle as being suicide on your backside.

A survey taken by the National Health and Nutrition Examination had similar findings. The researchers found that 10 percent of Americans sit for more than eight hours per day and do not get any exercise at all. The researchers stated that one of the main causes of heart disease, obesity, stroke and diabetes is a lack of physical activity.

CDC researchers are currently studying to find out whether people will be able to improve their health by sitting less. They also stated that healthcare providers play an important role in getting people to get more exercise. They stated that healthcare providers should encourage people to exercise in order to prevent serious health problems.

The Department of Health and Human Services has stated that people should get either 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week. You can also do a combination of both. They also recommend that people get strength training in their regimen. Strength training should be performed two or three times per week.
