A mission statement is often what separates a company from the rest of the competition in the field. Elysium Health is a New-York based consumer science company that is on a mission to help people live healthier for longer. To do so, the company is looking to solve the biggest challenges in health by translating advances in science and technology into clinically-validated products that work.
Why Science and Health?
Disease treatment has come a long way due to incredible progress in the healthcare industry. But plenty of advancements can still be made to keep healthy people, healthy. Scientists agree that aging and health issues are linked together. And scientific discoveries of the past 20 years offer an opportunity to proactively intervene.
Elysium Health was founded on the belief that everyone should be able to benefit from these scientific discoveries. Working in partnership with some of the world’s leading scientists, clinicians, and research institutions, Elysium Health is helping to bring a new approach to healthcare.
Science as the Core Value
Every Elysium Health initiative is founded on a commitment to rigorous scientific research. The company’s products undergo stringent testing and development before being released to the general public. Clinical research is a key differentiator between Elysium Health and other supplement makers. The company studies its products in humans so that customers can take proactive steps to support health and be confident that their decisions are based on scientific evidence.
The R&D process begins by identifying promising new research and natural compounds that support healthspan and a comprehensive evaluation of all available scientific literature. These compounds are all then tested for safety and efficacy in placebo-controlled human trials before coming to market.
Basis by Elysium Health
Elysium Health’s first product is the daily supplement Basis. Basis was designed based on 25 years of aging research and is provento increase and sustain levels of NAD+ in our cells. NAD+ is a critical coenzyme essential to many of our daily cellular functions, such as DNA protection, energy creation, and circadian rhythm, but as we age, our levels of NAD+ decline.
In 2016, Elysium Health conducted a clinical trial on Basis. This first in-humans trial showed that the daily recommended dose of Basis increases and sustains those higher levels of NAD+ by an average of 40 percent over several weeks. Trial subjects saw no significant adverse effects. Additionally, the results of the study were published in the open-access, peer-reviewed online science journal Nature Partner Journals: Aging and Mechanisms of Disease.
Basis is vegan, vegetarian, gluten, and nut-free, allowing almost anyone to take the supplement as part of a regular diet.
Beyond Basis, Elysium Health is also in the process of developing several other products, which focus on the microbiome, muscle, cognition, and circadian rhythm. These products are in various stages of pre-clinical and clinical trials.
Scientific Advisory Board and Academic Partnerships
To help guide the direction of the company, Elysium Health works with world-class researchers and clinicians in areas of neuroscience, complex chemical systems, and biochemistry, as well as gut health and cardiology to genomics and machine learning. Rather than endorsing a specific product, this network of professionals advises the Elysium team on product identification and development, clinical studies, and ongoing research.
The broad scope of expertise of the people who work with Elysium Health provides the company with resources to research and build effective health products.
Elysium Health has also established several key partnerships with top academic institutions. The company’s collaboration with such institutions provides Elysium with access to intellectual property, the ability to partner on clinical trials, and connections to top researchers. Currently, Elysium Health has three key academic collaborations.
At Harvard and the T. H. Chan School of Public Health, Elysium Health has established a multi-year agreement to fund research projects focused on cellular function and other key modulators in the aging process. By doing so, Elysium Health has become only the eighth company to collaborate with Harvard in this way.
At the University of Cambridge and the Milner Therapeutics Institute, Elysium Health is working to discover and develop preventative medicines from natural products. This partnership is helping accelerate medical advancements and includes a consortium of several leading pharmaceutical companies. Elysium Health is the only consumer-facing company unanimously invited to join this collaboration.
And at Oxford University, Elysium Health has established the Oxford-Elysium Fellowship program, which recruits top researchers to work in cutting-edge laboratories relating to cellular aging. The first fellow, Hanlin Zhang, discovered a new pathway for autophagy induction, which may play a significant role in aging.
Setting New Standards for Quality and Purity
At Elysium Health, quality always comes first. In order to ensure that Basis is manufactured with the highest-quality nicotinamide riboside and pterostilbene (the two main ingredients of the supplement), Elysium Health has invested more than $10 million to establish its own supply chain. Elysium’s crystalline nicotinamide riboside is both patent-pending and proprietary, and the company is the only one that has it.
Basis is manufactured in facilities that meet and exceed industry standards. Elysium Health also tests Basis for quality and purity both during and after manufacturing. Additionally, Basis is tested by independent, third-party labs to confirm the quality and purity of the product.
Customers can check the specific lot number and learn more about the test results of that lot by going to the company’s website. Both active ingredient testing and quality testing are shown for each lot. In an effort to deliver the highest quality product possible, Elysium Health has set internal guidelines that meet or exceed ICH/USP guidelines.
